Both the Cluster and the Booster use the EXTOLL TOURMALET network, which delivers 100 Gbit/s for each of link and supports grid as well as torus topologies. Technically, EXTOLL can support a 7th link. In a close co-design effort, the architecture design team and the application team decided on:

  • The network topology for the Booster (in detail, the required number of EXTOLL links)
  • The number of links between the Cluster and the Booster subsystems.


Having weighed the arguments and following an intensive review of the requirements of the DEEP-ER applications, the teams jointly decided to not go for the 7th link EXTOLL provides. Instead the DEEP-ER Booster uses a 6×3×4 torus with wraparound in the X and Z directions. The Booster is connected to the Cluster side using nine connections.
