SC16 in Salt Lake City, UT
- SC16 definitely did give us a wonderful welcome experience as we united again with more than 11.000 HPC community members.
- As usual, you could find us on the exhibition floor. This time at the booth of our coordinator, Jülich Supercomputing Centre. Thanks for hosting us!
- Lots to learn about our projects in so little time - that’s why we had quite some information material with us to give out to visitors.
- Interested folks could learn more about the NAM at the Doctoral Showcase presentation by our colleague J. Schmidt from Heidelberg University.
- More project related hardware you could see at the booth of partner EXTOLL - the GreenICE Booster is one of two Booster systems in our DEEP prototype.
- What brings HW and SW together in the DEEP-ER project is definitely our stringent co-design approach. This was also the key take-away message by our lead architect N. Eicker, when giving a talk on modular supercomputing at the Intel Community Hub.
- Bye, bye Salt Lake City and let’s stay connected because we all know: #hpcmatters
ISC'16 in Frankfurt, Germany
- And here we go again: Our 3rd ISC participation in a row together with our European Exascale Project partners.
- Doesn't it look great our booth? And so much to show - not only hardware...
- …just look at our panels explaining our I/O and resiliency approaches in DEEP-ER.
- While at ISC, we also enjoyed meeting good old friends. It’s always a pleasure to talk to Rich from insideHPC. You can see the outcome here.
- Lucky us, lots of our DEEP-ER partners were present at the show floor to take detailed questions on the project - like Eurotech...
- ... Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, which develops further OmpSs in DEEP-ER...
- ... or Fraunhofer ITWM, that deliver an important part of our DEEP-ER I/O stack...
- ... and of course Intel, where some of our researchers were invited to give talks - like our project manager Estela who describes the DEEP-ER co-design approach here.
- We were also all over the place in the technical program - e.g. with a BoF session on Exascale programming models or...
- ... with a workshop on prototyping next-gen supercomputers featuring a talk by Prof Steve Furber from the SpiNNaker project on neuromorphic computing.
- Up next: SC16 in Salt Lake City. Hope to see you there!
CeBIT 2016 in Hannover, Germany
- Deutsche Messe in Hannover, Germany, opened its doors for CeBIT from March 14 to 18, 2016 welcoming more than 200.000 attendees and close to 3300 exhibitors.
- We were excited to be part of Innovationsland North Rhine-Westfalia (NRW) stand in hall 6...(all following photos courtesy of MIWF/Schweizer)
- There we received high-ranking visits from e.g. Minister Svenja Schulze from the Ministery for Innovation, Science and Research of NRW...
- ...and her colleagues Dr. Beate Wieland and Thorsten Menne.
- The booth management took good care of us and provided us with excellent catering.
- So we could focus on explaining DEEP and DEEP-ER to the public.
- As usual, our prototype hardware was a crowd puller.
- ...especially the GreenICE immersion-cooled Booster solution by Extoll and Heidelberg University.
- Thanks to NRW for having us at their booth. Hope to see you at one of our next trade shows like ISC’16 in Frankfurt, Germany.
SC15 in Austin, TX
- Our lovely open booth for this year’s exhibit
- Already Monday afternoon, the team was all set and ready to answer questions
- As usual, one of the attractions at our booth was prototype hardware...
- But we were also keen on educating our audience on how @DEEPprojects helps enabling HPC applications for Exascale
- Lucky us, we were to be found all over the place, like for instance at the Emerging Technology Track of the exhibit via our partner Heidelberg University and their openHMC project.
- Of course detailed information on the various aspects of @DEEPprojects could also be gathered at our partners’ booths - as for instance on programming models at the booth of Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
- ...or on our interconnect at the Extoll booth - again a visitor magnet for their 3M Novec liquid cooling showcase.
- Almost already a tradition: We were invited over to the Intel booth - This time for a panel on European HPC initiatives together with other European Commission funded Exascale projects like NextGenIO or EXA2CT.
- Even more information on the European Exascale research landscape was presented by Project Officer Dr. Panagiotis Tsarchopoulos during his invited talk on Wednesday afternoon.
- We concluded this year’s conference with a BoF session jointly organised with ETP4HPC and were overwhelmed by a full-house on a late Thursday afternoon.
- We are glad we had the opportunity to take part in SC15 and are already very much excited to go to Salt Lake City for SC16. See you there ;)
ISC'15 in Frankfurt, Germany
- All set-up for the first rush to the European Exascale Projects booth
- Cristina from JSC explaining the DEEP/-ER Programming Model to booth visitors
- Again a magnet for visitors: our DEEP and DEEP-ER hardware, including the hybrid memory cube (HMC) live-demo
- Chip designers amongst themselves: Juri from University of Heidelberg and Igor from Eurotech discussing details about the hybrid memory cube and its integration into the DEEP-ER architecture
- Estela talking about the DEEP/-ER projects and architecture innovation with Intel Xeon Phi at the Intel Parallel Universe Theatre
- Hendrik from Cyprus Institute and Alex from Intel talking about new levels of code performance from collaboration - also done in the DEEP/-ER projects
- Estela and Filippo talking about the DEEP/-ER and Mont-Blanc projects with Primeur Magazine
- Delighted to host our joint European Exascale Projects Workshop at Marriot Hotel Frankfurt
- Norbert from JSC on lessons learned in the DEEP and DEEP-ER projects
- It was a pleasure taking part in ISC’15. Looking forward to seeing many of you again next year - hope to keep up with some traditions.
SC14 in New Orleans, LA
- SC14: Big Conference in the Big Easy
- Already looking promising: Our European Exascale Projects booth during build-up
- Finally: DEEP and DEEP-ER are all set and ready to rumble
- Massive amount of people at the booth during the official opening gala - might have had something to do with our amazing swags
- Attracted lots of attention: DEEP and DEEP-ER hardware
- That is why... Beautiful, right?
- Very proud of that piece of hardware because it’s entirely developed in the project: A Booster Node Card and Booster Interface Card plugged into the DEEP Backplane
- From the DEEP-ER part of the project we showcased some really innovative hardware: a hybrid memory cube and a FPGA board with the HMC controller on it - together forming the network attached memory
- Even more stunning hardware...
- Of course also our software experts rocked SC, namely in the Emerging Technology Track of the exhibit. With the DEEP Offload Model and...
- the DEEP-ER I/O concept
- Not to forget: we were present as well at our partners’ booths - Project Manager Estela at the Intel Collaboration Zone
- Our integration partner Eurotech - recently named Leading HPC Solution Provider by HPCWire
- Who would have guessed: More hardware, this time at the Extoll booth - it’s a Tourmalet card, also part of the DEEP hardware
- SC14 was a fantastic event for us. Thanks for everyone stopping by. And as we truly think #hpcmatters, see you next year in Austin, Texas!
