In the DEEPprojects, we organize heterogeneity in the unique Cluster-Booster architecture, which combines a cluster of general purpose Intel Xeon processors with a cluster of many-core Intel Xeon Phi processors.

What makes our project so unique is the stringent co-design approach which we apply in our prototyping effort. Co-design is done on all possible levels in DEEP-ER:

  • hardware – software
  • software – software
  • software – applications
  • hardware – applications


This way, our 14 partners from academia and industry manage to develop a highly innovative prototype system integrating on top of the hardware  innovative I/O and resiliency functions, and preparing application codes to profit from the system, e.g. by exploiting network attached memory devices.
