From September 3rd to 4th, the 14 partners of the DEEP-ER consortium met for a Face2Face (F2F) meeting in Havant, near Portsmouth, in the South of England. The two days of intensive meeting went by really quickly – no wonder, since the agenda was packed with lots of presentations and lively discussions. It became very clear once again, that DEEP-ER is truly focusing on co-design, especially and above all on the two central topics highly scalable, parallel I/O and resiliency. After all, these two aspects can only be dealt with following an integrated approach. The meeting was the ideal set-up for the hardware, software and application experts to up-date each other on the current status within the single work packages and talk intensively about future steps for close co-operation.
But needless to say: The F2F meeting was not only about work but also a fantastic opportunity to meet the whole project “family” again. After all, no video or conference call in the world will make up for a meeting in person. Despite the fully packed agenda, there was enough time to mingle during the coffee breaks, to get to know some people new to the project, to catch up at the social diner or even exploring the lovely city of Portsmouth during a nice morning run with colleagues.
Overall, it was a very fruitful, yet enjoyable meeting. This leaves us with saying massive thanks to Sai Narasimhamurthy from Xyratex (now Seagate): The event could not have been organised better. Thanks for hosting the whole crowd!
