CERFACS is a research Centre dedicated to the development of high performance scientific computational tools. The main fields of application of the CFD team at CERFACS are turbulent unsteady flows around aircrafts, turbomachines and combustion chambers (reacting flows). To study these problems, CERFACS uses advanced computational approaches, among them Large Eddy Simulation or LES: Large Eddy Simulations is a modelling approach in which small turbulent scales are modelled but large scales are explicitly computed. This technique is thoroughly used at CERFACS to compute flows in complex geometries such as combustion chambers and more recently around turbine blades.
DEEP
Within the DEEP project, the CERFACS in-house LES codes were used to provide a pilot application for Exascale computing devoted to the environment of complex aeronautical engines.
