The Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) in Kaiserslautern, Germany, focuses on mathematical approaches to practical challenges like optimisation and visualisation. With computer simulations being an indispensable tool in the design and optimisation of products and production processes, real models are being replaced by virtual models and mathematics play a fundamental role in the creation of this virtual world. Core competences of ITWM include processing of large data sets, drafting of mathematical models, problem-solving in numerical algorithms, summarisation of data sets, interactive optimisation of solutions, and visualisation of simulation and sensor data.
DEEP-SEA
FHG will perform tasks within:
- Work package “Co-design applications”, by providing the seismic RTM Code as a use case.
- Work package “Node-level programming”, by providing extensions to the Slurm resource manager for a better malleability.
- Work package “System-level programming”, by improving its GPI and GPI-Space implementation.
DEEP-EST, DEEP-ER, DEEP
Within the framework of the previous projects, Fraunhofer ITWM contributed to the focus area of developing a highly scalable I/O approach that is indeed based on Fraunhofer’s file system BeeGFS as one of three core components.
